This project is about the relationship between mothers’ memory of their mother and their own self-image as a mother.  In this work, I interviewed mothers from different generations and backgrounds. I visited their homes to collect their stories. All of the stories are written in a red notebook and it is passed on to the next interviewee. In the film, they read the stories of the previous interviewee in front of camera. Each piece of narrative in the film doesn’t belong to the person who narrates it, as somebody else wrote it. Their reading sounds more like storytelling rather than acting - however there is an intimate relationship between the narrative they read and their own memories.
The women’s personal narratives become the collective memory of a mother and this eventually creates a singular image of a mother - this can be viewed as the image of the expectation about mothers from society as well as the ideal form of a mother passed down from generation to generation.
This is the experimental film project to search for what is the image of a mother that we seem to hold in our mind unconsciously.
