Experiment of WORK SONG
Experiment of WORK SONG 1 was produced for the Crisis Residency Program at Cove Park in 2020-21, collaborating with musician Sarah McWhinney. Our aim was to create a Work Song with its own hand-drawn graphic score as well as a music composed by McWhinney. Exploring the relationship between the rhythm of manual labour and landscape, we recorded the soundscape at Linn Park in Glasgow and created music to experiment with hidden times of labour, using an exercise created by Murray Schafer, found in Lecture 2 of his ‘Ear Cleaning’ publication. Led by Sarah McWhinney, we took note of surrounding sounds and rhythms found in silence, with the specific time they occur, and acoustically recreate these noises using vocals and instrumentation. |
